Ocean
Kayaks are excellent dive vehicles as they can transport you and all your
equipment to untouched reefs and coves comfortably and efficiently. Paddling
uses your arm muscles, reserving your leg muscles for your dive.
Ocean Kayaks are perfect for snorkeling. Paddle out in your wet suit if you'll be wearing one during the dive. Once out on the water, donning mask, fins and snorkel can quickly be accomplished. The kayaks may be easily towed behind using a bowline once you are swimming and provide a great safety platform. You may even swim along the surface holding onto the kayak for support while you view the water below. |
Few
boats besides a kayak can be maneuvered into such sought after fishing
spots. Commercial sport fishing boats must stop
short of kelp beds, reefs, and shallows. A kayak may be paddled to the
precise spot where the fish are waiting.
The open cockpit lets you turn around freely to follow a hooked fish with your pole, and the stable hull design gives you the confidence to haul in the big ones. OceanKayakFishing.com
is a web site dedicated solely to the art of kayak fishing.

Surf can be one of the most aggravating places a kayaker encounters. A lot of people simply avoid it. But open coasts carved by surf can be richer in many ways than protected waters. A kayaker encountering
surf should be most concerned with the "high energy zone" where the waves
begin their break and where they turn to rather benign rolling, foamy water. Once you've reached the beach, whether sideways or straight in, there is one more thing to remember. Don't get out on the beach side of the kayak or the next wave, which may be only three inches high, will slam the kayak into your shins, causing you to cry out a few choice expletives and mar an otherwise perfectly executed landing. |
