In addition to the wow factor, designing the interior like a boat had a definite practical advantage. Economy of space is crucial in boat design and the built-in furniture and custom cabinets found throughout adds to the home's comfort and spacious feel.

Step inside to the roomy salon and galley (living room and kitchen, for landlubbers) and the real experience begins.  The floors, walls and ceilings throughout the house are all finished in tongue-and-groove pine with mahogany trim.

The ceiling beams are finished to a slight curved, creating the illusion of being below deck on a wooden ship.

The living room has its share of nautical artifacts. Suspended over a built-in corner chair is an old diving helmet. Above the blue-upholstered, built-in sofa is a wooden sailboat that Pat (The owner and creator of this extraordinary house) built himself.

It's a reproduction of a hull design that was created by his great-grandfather, a Norwegian sailor.  His grandfather's sea chest makes a coffee table.  A wooden sailboat's mast and a boat hook hang over the door.

Pat outfitted the kitchen to look like a sailboat's galley. The bench along the bar was made from a diving platform salvaged from an old Chris-Craft boat. He built the cabinets with finger holes instead of drawer pulls.

One of the cabinets along the bar pulls out to reveal a fold-out cook's seat, salvaged, of course, from a boat.
