HURRICANE. We have
had a number of hurricanes since arriving in 1988. There has been no serious
damage to the house, nor has there been any water intrusion onto the yard.
Storm shutters are provided for all windows, upstairs and downstairs. Easy to
install. Rip rap added in front of bulkhead circa 1996. There has been no
erosion or bulkhead damage since then
- UTILITIES:
Monthly power bill - $130 (bills available); Water, trash, sewage - $40
- TRAFFIC. No
through traffic. Exceptionally quiet neighborhood
|
- FIREPLACE. Draws
well. Used almost nightly during the Winters. Lots of dry hardwood available
- GAS STOVE TOP.
Propane tank and gas plumbing installed 1998
- SILHOUETTE SHADES
IN BAY ROOM. Hidden by valance, very effective in shielding afternoon sun
without darkening room
- OAK TREES. The
grove of oak trees covers the front yard and most of the back yard in shade
throughout the Summer. No trees were lost during Ivan. Maple trees provide
total shade on the back patio
- BARBECUE PIT:
Brick pit on the patio works well, with a little work on the inside tray and
crank. Portable pit goes with house
-
YARD WATER SPRINKLING
SYSTEM. Four quadrants; automatic.
-
BAY WATER. Ideal for
swimming. Sandy bottom makes great swimming for kids around the pier. Swimming
from boat in the bay is delightful....warm, no jellyfish, only dolphins in the
area.
-
CRABS: Started
catching crabs this year in April. Big blue claw crabs.
-
SAILING: I keep
Sunfish under pier - able to be sailing within 10 minutes after deciding to
go.
-
POWER BOAT: I owned a
Sea Ray 20 foot boat until Ivan. Never a problem getting into the pier, though
the water does get shallow during the Winter. Skiing just off the pier is
usually great. When there is too much wave action we go across the Bay into
Soldier’s Creek where the skiing is always perfect - wide, not heavily used,
calm water.
